The WebBikeWorld writers have been abuzz with excitement about the newly redesigned Yamaha MT-03 for 2020. Despite the range launching in 2006 and having a second-generation launch in 2016, Yamaha has taken the bike back to the drawing board and the results are worth the excitement.
Firstly, the 2020 MT-03 does away with the previous generation’s inline twin in favor of a new inline twin with a 180-degree crank and built-in counterbalancers that are expected to produce over 50 crank HP and mid to high 40’s in torque at the crank.
As well, Yamaha listened to their riders and have re-tuned the rear suspension as well as designed a new, slightly longer swingarm to improve confidence under braking and hard cornering. They then have paired that with an entirely new 37 mm upside-down front fork to give better road feel and comfort, and lowered the seat height to a hair over 30 inches to bring the center of balance lower and allow for easier cornering.
As well for 2020, Yamaha has redesigned the multifunction dash display to make it more readable at any speed, as well as make it more user-friendly. Lastly, and again by listening to their riders, a brand new downdraft fuel injection system has been designed and implemented to allow for much smoother starts over previous generations. As well, on a personal note, the new triple headlight assembly looks viciously aggressive, and this writer loves it.
The new 2020 Yamaha MT-03 starts at $4,599 US/$5,899 CA.

37mm KYB Inverted Front Fork
The MT-03’s serious big-bike specification is underlined with the addition of an inverted KYB front fork.
