The ORYXEARTH BRM200-1 Brings Old-School Mini Bike Fun Back to the Dirt

The gas mini bike has been part of American backyards for a long time, and many riders still remember pulling the starter cord on one for the first time. These were simple machines with very few parts, and that simplicity is the reason so many people used them as their first way onto two wheels.

Full-size dirt bikes are a different story for the casual rider. They are heavy, they ask for more maintenance and the price of a new one can reach five figures, which is a lot of money in the case of someone who only rides on the weekend. ORYXEARTH, an outdoor recreation brand founded in 2022, sees room for the simpler option in this market. Its newest model is the BRM200-1, a 196cc gas mini bike launched in October 2026 with a pull-start four-stroke engine and an open frame that follows the classic mini bike layout.

ORYXEARTH sells its gas mini bikes under the BRM name. The range starts with the 105cc BRM100P-1, which is a twist-and-go mini bike made for teens and first-time riders, and it moves up to the BRM200 family for adult riders. We talked about the BRM100P-1 and the original BRM200 in our article on why mini bikes are winning over new off-road riders, and the BRM200 models are still the most powerful gas bikes in the ORYXEARTH range.

The BRM200-1 is the newest addition to that BRM200 family. The founder of the brand, Steven Yang, explains the riding experience in very simple words: “pull the cord, hear the four-stroke engine come to life.” This is more or less the main idea behind the bike, and it is a good fit for a recreational mini bike. The complete specifications are available on the ORYXEARTH website, and the most important details are explained below.

A 196cc Four-Stroke That Keeps Things Simple

The BRM200-1 uses an air-cooled, single-cylinder four-stroke engine. Engines of this size and type are common in go-karts and outdoor power equipment, so they are well known by mechanics and owners and they are not hard to work on at home. ORYXEARTH rates the engine at 6.5 hp, and peak torque of 8.1 lb-ft (11 Nm) comes in at only 2,500 rpm.

These numbers are not meant to compete with a motocross bike. In a mini bike, the low-rpm torque is more important than horsepower, because it helps the bike pull from a stop and climb a hill without the rider having to use a lot of throttle. ORYXEARTH says the top speed of the BRM200-1 is 56 km/h (35 mph) and that the bike can climb a 15-degree slope, which is enough for most backyard trails and farm roads.

Pull Start and an Automatic Clutch

Starting the BRM200-1 is done the traditional way, with a recoil pull cord like the one found on many small engines. When the engine is running, a centrifugal clutch does the work of engaging the drive. The rider turns the throttle, the clutch engages as the revs go up and the bike starts moving, and when the throttle is released the clutch disengages again. There is no gear shifting and there is no clutch lever, so new riders can concentrate on steering and braking instead of worrying about stalling the engine.

Compact and Light Enough to Live With

The BRM200-1 weighs 49 kg (108 lb), so two people can lift it into a pickup bed without the need of a ramp. ORYXEARTH also says the bike fits in a car trunk or in the back of an SUV, which means a trailer is not required to take it to a campsite or a riding area. The seat height is 650 mm (25.6 in), and this is low enough for most adult riders to put both feet on the ground when they stop, something that helps a lot on loose dirt.

An Open Frame Built for Tinkering

Mini bikes have always been popular with people who like to work on their own machines. The classic design is basically a tube frame with the engine mounted in the middle, and all the parts are easy to see and easy to reach. For many riders, changing sprockets and painting the frame was part of the fun, and a lot of them learned how an engine works by fixing this kind of bike in the garage.

The BRM200-1 keeps this open-frame design, and ORYXEARTH added a practical feature for owners who want to customize the bike. It comes with pre-routed wiring harnesses, so it is easier to install accessories like a headlight or turn signals without running new wires from zero. The open frame also leaves space for performance upgrades in the future. In comparison with modern bikes, where it is sometimes necessary to remove bodywork to reach a spark plug, this layout makes basic maintenance much more direct.

Where the BRM200-1 Makes Sense

The BRM200-1 is a recreational mini bike, and ORYXEARTH says it is made to be ridden on private property and in designated off-road areas where riding is permitted. This still includes many places to ride. Farm tracks and private land behind the house are good options, and the same goes for off-road parks and campgrounds that allow this type of vehicle. Compared with the smaller BRM100P-1, the extra torque is easy to notice on loose climbs and with heavier riders, which is the reason adult riders will prefer it.

Riders should always check the local rules before riding, because what is allowed changes depending on the state and the land manager. Protective gear is as important on a mini bike as on a bigger motorcycle, and the minimum is a helmet, goggles, gloves and boots. Our off-road gear guide is a useful starting point for riders who are putting together their first kit.

The ORYXEARTH BRM200-1 does not try to change the idea of what a mini bike is. It uses the same basic formula that made backyard mini bikes popular for decades, and it adds a little more power and a wiring harness that is ready for upgrades. The price is $799 through the ORYXEARTH website and Amazon, with limited-time discounts available at launch. In the case of riders who miss the sound of a pull-start four-stroke, or who never had a mini bike when they were young, the BRM200-1 is an easy way to get that experience.
