WORLDS FASTEST INDIAN Garage Built Bikes

This bike and streamliner were built by Burt Munro to race at the Bonneville salt flats. “The World’s Fastest Indian” – On his first visit to Bonneville Burt worked as a cook on a cargo ship to pay for his and his bike’s passage to the US. Burt Munro from Invercargill NZ made ten trips to Bonneville. In 1967, at the age of 68, he set a land speed record of 185.586 mph—on a 47-year old machine with an original top speed of 55mph with a 51-inch 1920 Indian engine (much modified by the owner). The original 1920 Indian Scout had a 37 cubic inch twin was also sold with no lights or horn. The rider added his own Presto tank, lights and hand operated Klaxon horn.
