The 2023 Himiway E-Bike Lineup + Our Take On Each Model

When Mike, founder, and CEO of Himiway eBikes, came back from his travels through Asia, he had a dream: To create an eBike that cut out the middleman, and for his bikes to be the best value for money in the market.

Just a few short years later, after an initial fleet of just four bikes, Himiway is now one of the premier providers of mid-drive and hub-drive eBikes across Europe and North America. They have proven to be robust, reliable, and comfortable commuters, cargo, and off-road adventure bikes.

Thanks in large part to Himiway’s ongoing partnership with Kenda, as well as starting another partnership with CST, every bike in their 2023 range has puncture-resistant, highly resilient and long lasting tires. They provide their own gear hub motors, and for their mid-mount motors they source only the best of the best from Bafang. What all this means is that with any of the eBikes in Himiway’s 2023 model range, you get the best components, design, and engineering one can get, at an amazingly affordable price.

Say hello to Himiway’s ultra-adjustable jack of all trades, The Cruiser.

Riding on two 4-inch wide fat tires, the Cruiser adds some extra comfort via 80 mm of front fork suspension travel alongside its shaped and padded velo-style saddle. Controlling the bike is also a breeze with the handlebar mounted LCD information display and left hand thumb button cluster, allowing you to add or remove pedal assist on the fly.

If you want to give your legs a break, the right hand features a half-grip twist throttle, which can carry the bike at a maximum of 25 MPH for between 35 to 60 miles. If that wasn’t enough, it can maintain that speed while also carrying up to 350 lbs, shared between rider and any items on the included cargo rack over the rear wheel.

With a 750W brushless gear hub motor providing up to 80 Nm of torque, the Cruiser makes crossing rougher terrain or climbing steep hills in either full-electric or pedal assist modes a breeze. The 17.5Ah battery is removable and takes between 5 to 7 hours to charge with the included 2.0 Amp smart charger.

The Cruiser starts at $1,699 USD / 2,299 CAD, with a set of mudguard fenders, a 16-in-1 repair tool, the rear cargo rack, and a ballcap all included.

2023 Himiway All-Terrain Cruiser Step-Thru

2023 Himiway Cruiser Step-Thru Key Specifications

  • Price: $1,599 USD / $1,935.67 CAD
  • Buy: Himiway Cruiser Step-Thru
  • Motor: 750w Brushless Gear Hub Motor / 80 Nm Torque
  • Est. Range: 35 mi to 60 mi / 56 to 100km
  • Top Speed: est. ~ 25 mph / 40 kph
  • Pedal Sensor: Cadence, with 5 PAS levels
  • Battery: 48v 17.5AH Samsung Lithium Battery (840WH)
  • Transmission: Shimano 7-speed free-wheel

What happens when you take the jack-all-trades Cruiser and lower the top bar? You get the Cruiser Step-Thru, a more urbane and “civilised” version. The quotes are there because apart from the top bar being lowered to allow for easy step-through mounting and dismounting, all the other specs remain the same.

That means you get the same 750W brushless gear hub motor with its meaty 80 Nm of torque, range of between 35 to 60 miles, and top all-electric speed of 25 MPH. It means you get those 5 levels of pedal assist through the Shimano 7-speed derailleur, measured with a cadence sensor. It means the same 350 lbs payload capacity between rider and the included cargo shelf.

It also means that the Cruiser Step-Thru is the ultimate option when it comes to an eBike that you can use whenever and wherever you need. Commuting, running to the corner store, or going on a trail ride, the Cruiser can do it all and ask for more.

The Cruiser Step-Thru starts at $1,699 USD / 2,299 CAD, with a set of mudguard fenders, a 16-in-1 repair tool, the rear cargo rack, and a ballcap all included.

2023 Himiway Escape Pro

2023 Himiway Escape Key Specifications

  • Price: $1,699 USD / $2,052.93 CAD
  • Buy: Himiway Escape
  • Motor: 750w Brushless Gear Hub Motor / 80 Nm Torque
  • Est. Range: 30 mi to 50 mi / 48 to 80km
  • Top Speed: est. ~ 25 mph / 40 kph
  • Pedal Sensor: Cadence, with 5 PAS levels
  • Battery: 48v 14AH Samsung Lithium Battery (672WH)
  • Transmission: Shimano 7-speed free-wheel

The Himiway Escape Pro is an upgraded version of the 2022 Escape, now featuring a 17.5Ah (840 Wh) removable battery that combines with the 500W brushless gear hub motor to give between 30 to 50 miles of range, depending on pedal assist or full electric usage.

What sets the Escape Pro apart from many other models in Himiway’s lineup is the combination of its moped-style step-thru design and its dual suspension setup. The front hydraulic fork features 80mm of travel, while the rear dual spring suspension offers up to 80mm of travel before hitting the hydraulic lockout.

The Escape Pro weighs in at 92 lbs, with a payload capacity including rider of 330 lbs. This allows for the use of the included cargo rack and/or optional front basket to perform all your runabout needs without compromising on the comfort or enjoyment of your ride.

The Himiway Escape Pro starts at $1,799 USD / $2,599 CAD, with a rear cargo rack, 16-in-1 repair tool, front and rear mudguard fenders, and a ballcap included. At the time of this listing, Himiway is also throwing in the front basket ($89 USD) and a set of rearview mirrors ($49 USD) as well.

2023 Himiway City Pedelec

2023 Himiway Pedelec Key Specifications

  • Price: €1,499 (estimated $1,749 USD / $2,199 CAD)
  • Buy: Himiway Pedelec (EU Only)
  • Motor: 250w Brushless Gear Hub Motor / 45 Nm Torque
  • Est. Range: 50 to 75 mi / 80 to 120 km
  • Top Speed: 15 mph / 25 kph (compliance with EU law limiting urban bike speeds)
  • Pedal Sensor: Cadence, with 5 PAS levels
  • Battery: 36V 18.2Ah Samsung Lithium Battery (655Wh)
  • Transmission: Shimano 7-speed free-wheel

The Himiway City Pedelec is unfortunately not available in North America, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t talk about this brilliant model that we think should make the transition over to our shores. It also sets itself apart from other Himiway eBikes in that is does not come with their signature feature, fat tires.

Instead, the City Pedelec features Kenda 1.95 inch tires with an all-weather grip. It still features the same puncture resistance and durability of the Kenda 4 inch fat tires, and paired with the 250W brushless gear hub motor with the familiar Shimano 7 speed derailleur, it is capable of between 50 to 75 miles of in-city commuting and runabout use.

We should emphasize that this is definitely a city bike, meant to be ridden where bike lanes are prominent and well maintained, such as Copenhagen, Amsterdam, or Berlin. It doesn’t feature the heavy duty suspension of most of the other adventurous Himiway eBikes, and it is definitely larger than the Escape Pro in terms of sheer physical dimensions.

The other thing that definitely makes this a city bike is in the name. Pedelec, if you break it down, means “pedal electric,” in that the bike only features pedal assist, with no pure electric twist throttle. That is one of the primary reasons the bike can reach up to 75 miles of daily riding, and if the battery runs out of charge, the bike will still function as a pedal bike without the increased resistance of a fat tire.

The information display features a USB charge port so you can use a GPS or charge your phone while it is using a maps app, a nice feature in some of the older cities of Europe where the street layouts can be generously called confusing. It has an LED headlight as with most Himiway eBikes, as well a rear reflector-slash-taillight. The bike comes with a 36V 18.2 Ah battery to provide the juice needed for all-day riding without discharging too quickly, and is limited to 15 MPH of assist to comply with the different regulations regarding eBikes in the EU.

The Himiway Pedelec would be perfect for American cities like New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, and the like, where you could realistically ride it in from the suburbs for your morning  commute and still have enough power left over for the ride back. Himiway keeps teasing that they’re considering bringing it over, but for now, the 2023 Pedelec is available in Europe only at a price of €1,599 (approximately $1,754 USD / $2,377 CAD), which includes a free charger, mudguard fender for the front wheel, and cargo shelf.

2023 Himiway Pony

2023 Himiway Pony Key Specifications

  • Price: $649 USD / $899 CAD
  • Buy: Himiway Pony
  • Motor: 300W Brushless Gear Hub Motor / Unknown Nm Torque
  • Est. Range: 20 mi / 32km
  • Top Speed: 16 mph / 26 kph
  • Pedal Sensor: N/A
  • Battery: 36v 10Ah LG Lithium Battery (360 Wh)
  • Transmission: Direct drive single gear

The Himiway Pony is an interesting eBike for a variety of reasons. Most significantly, it lacks any pedals, instead featuring a pair of foot pegs much like a motorcycle, yet it does not qualify as a motorcycle due to its limited top speed of 16 MPH. Secondly, it is the smallest and lightest eBike currently made by Himiway, at a scant 35 lbs total weight with the battery installed, and is only 49.2 inches long, with a wheelbase of 29.5 inches, and a total height to the top of the handlebars of 41 inches.

The reason for these tiny dimensions and the lack of pedals is that the Pony is designed as the ultimate city runabout that does not need you to have a motorcycle license. It has been designed with a mind towards being able to take it onto a metro train, subway, or bus for part of your commute, and then be a twist-and-go eBike once you are in the city or near your work. This design concept emerged from the fact that many European cities have dense inner cities that have tight and narrow areas that a car can’t pass through, yet a bike will easily be able to navigate. It has even been designed to be robust and durable, as despite its diminutive size, it still has a payload capacity of 240 lbs including the rider!

The 2023 Himiway Pony starts at $649 USD / $899 CAD, with an included 2.0A smart charger that will give the battery a charge to 80% within 6 hours.

2023 Himiway Rambler

  • Top Speed: 20 mph / 32 kph
  • Pedal Sensor: Cadence, with 5 PAS levels

The Himiway Rambler is an eBike that has been designed for all day city riding, bypassing traffic by effortlessly cruising down the bike lanes and pathways. It is also an eBike of multiple personalities, with three distinct sub-models: the Basic, which has everything you need to get around in comfort; the Upgraded, which adds two extra gears for the rear Shimano derailleur for a total of 9; and the Premium, which moves the drive motor to the a mid-mount position and doubles the available torque.

The Basic and Upgraded are both meant to be affordable commuters, with the biggest difference between the two apart from the extra two gears being that the Upgraded also gains a cargo rack over the rear wheel. The Premium is more of a complete commuter and runabout, as that extra torque from the mid-drive motor will have you effortlessly conquering hills and carrying the maximum payload of 330 lbs including rider without needing to add in that extra effort to get moving from a stop.

All three versions of the Rambler are also step-thru, making them very easy to mount or dismount from. A thumb throttle allows for you to give your legs a rest when needed, with a maximum top electric speed of 20 MPH. A standard LCD display with speed, charge level, estimated range at current PAS level, and other information is included with the Basic and Upgraded. The Premium gets a higher end TFT color display, dominated with a speedometer, with charge level, current gear, time, trip meter, and estimated range all easily readable in all light. All three models also include USB charging, so you can use them with your smartphone in GPS mode, or a dedicated USB powered GPS unit.

All three models also include a powerful 500LM front headlight, an integrated and highly visible tail light, and a Selle Royal saddle for all day comfort. It should be noted that only the Rambler Basic is available in Canada, while the USA has all three sub-models. All three sub-models also include a 3.0A smart charger as standard.

The 2023 Himiway Rambler Basic starts at $1,399 USD / $2,049 CAD. The Rambler Upgraded starts at $1,599 USD. The Rambler Premium starts at $2,299 USD.

2023 Himiway Rhino

2023 Himiway Rhino Key Specifications

  • Price: $3,199 USD / $4,599 CAD
  • Buy: Himiway Rhino
  • Motor: 1,000W Brushless Gear Hub Motor / 90 Nm Torque
  • Est. Range: 100 mi / 160 km
  • Top Speed: 28 mph / 32 kph
  • Pedal Sensor: Cadence, with 5 PAS levels
  • Battery: 2x 48v 15Ah Samsung/LG Lithium Battery (1440Wh combined)
  • Transmission: Shimano 9-speed free-wheel

The Rhino is one of the newest bikes from Himiway, a dedicated, dual-battery hard-tail mountain and trail bike designed to conquer any terrain you show it. Just looking at the specs, this is a serious bike for serious adventurers, with 1,000W of power from the rear gear hub drive motor, dual batteries, a 100 mile range even at the highest level of pedal assist, and super-fat 4.5 inch wide off-road tires from Kenda.

This is not a bike for those that want to stay indoors on the weekends. The ruggedized 6061 aluminum frame is ready to handle even the roughest terrain, with long travel front suspension able to absorb the roughest of bumps, and the hard tail rear keeping that rear tire in constant contact with the ground. Add in the fact that you have a combined 1,440Wh of power from the dual removable batteries for all day off-road riding of at least 100 miles, and it becomes evident that this is an eBike that wants to get dirt and dust kicking up behind it.

In the likely case that you’ll also want to use the bike in the city or for commuting, Himiway has given the Rhino some serious muscle for that too. A thumb throttle to cruise up to 28 MPH, five levels of pedal assist, and a cargo-bike like 400 lbs total payload capacity including the rider. A cargo rack is included as standard, and an LCD, high visibility information panel is easy to read even when traveling the roughest of terrain.

Dual 3.0A chargers are provided as standard. The 2023 Himiway Rhino starts at $3,199 USD / $4,599 CAD

2023 Himiway Rhino Pro

2023 Himiway Rhino Pro Key Specifications

  • Price: $4,199 USD / $5,899 CAD
  • Buy: Himiway Rhino
  • Motor: 1,000W Brushless Mid-Drive Motor / 160 Nm Torque
  • Est. Range: 100 mi / 160 km
  • Top Speed: 28 mph / 32 kph
  • Pedal Sensor: Cadence, with 5 PAS levels
  • Battery: 2x 48v 15Ah Samsung/LG Lithium Battery (1440Wh combined)
  • Transmission: Shimano 10-speed gear system

If the Rhino all on its own wasn’t impressive enough, Himiway has also provided an upgraded model, the Rhino Pro, for those that want to push their adventure riding even further. With a mid-drive 1,000W motor, torque is nearly doubled over the standard Rhino at 160 Nm.

With that mid-drive motor also comes an upgraded TFT information display, with all the vital statistics about your bike you need. Speed, trip, estimate range, pedal assist level… whatever you need, it’s easily visible at all times. As well, to handle those super steep hills, a 10-speed Shimano derailleur is standard instead of the 9-speed on the regular Rhino.

Like its little brother, the Pro also has a payload capacity of 400 lbs and comes included with a headlight, tail light, cargo rack, and thumb throttle. It also features the same long-travel, hydraulic lockout front suspension and hard-tail rear, and is more than happy to be a commuter and city bike when not churning up the ground as it dominates the trails.

Dual 3.0A chargers are provided as standard. The 2203 Himiway Rhino Pro starts at $4,199 USD / $5,899 CAD.

2023 Himiway Zebra

2023 Himiway Zebra Key Specifications

  • Price: $1,999 USD / $2,699 CAD
  • Buy: Himiway Zebra
  • Motor: 750W Brushless Gear Hub Motor / 86 Nm Torque
  • Est. Range: 60 to 80 mi / 100 to 128 km
  • Top Speed: 25 mph / 40 kph
  • Pedal Sensor: Cadence, with 5 PAS levels
  • Battery: 48V 20Ah Samsung/LG Lithium Battery (960Wh)
  • Transmission: Shimano 7-speed free-wheel

For those that looked at the All-Terrain Cruiser and thought that it could use a bit more power, a bit more payload capacity, and a bit more of everything, Himiway has you covered with the Zebra. They themselves describe it as an updated, upgraded version of the Cruiser, and have improved the eBike in all the areas that count.

An improved 48V 20Ah battery is an improvement over the 48V 17.5Ah unit in the Cruiser. It may not seem like much, but that upgraded battery gives almost twice the range over its cousin. The Zebra also has a total payload capacity of 400 lbs including the rider, 50 lbs more than its cousin.

The step-over frame is also single spar instead of a bent spar style, making mounting and dismounting easier while also giving the bike that little bit more rigidity. As well, because of the improved battery, the Zebra comes as standard with a 3.0A charger, instead of the 2.0A one included with its cousin.

Like its cousin, the Zebra is also able to handle almost all terrain without issue, due to its 4 inch fat tires and robust front suspension. As well, it is a friendly commuter, but with an improved range for those that may need to travel even further to and from work over the Cruiser. Best of all, it still comes in under $2,000 USD, and at the time of this writing, comes with a full mudguard fender set, 16-in-1 repair tool, and the rear cargo rack.

The 2023 Himiway Zebra starts at $1,999 USD / $2,699 CAD

2023 Himiway Zebra Step-Thru

2023 Himiway Zebra Step-Thru Key Specifications

  • Price: $1,999 USD / $2,699 CAD
  • Buy: Himiway Zebra Pro
  • Motor: 750W Brushless Gear Hub Motor / 86 Nm Torque
  • Est. Range: 60 to 80 mi / 100 to 128 km
  • Top Speed: 25 mph / 40 kph
  • Pedal Sensor: Cadence, with 5 PAS levels
  • Battery: 48V 20Ah Samsung/LG Lithium Battery (960Wh)
  • Transmission: Shimano 7-speed free-wheel

The Himiway Zebra Step-Thru is the more commuter and city friendly version of the Zebra, in much the same way the Cruiser Step-Thru is to the Cruiser.

Like its cousin, the Zebra Step-Thru shares all the same features as the Zebra. This means the same powerful 750W, 86 Nm gear hub motor, the same 400 lbs payload capacity, and the same 60 to 80 miles of range from the uprated 48V 20Ah (960Wh) battery. The only difference is that the upper spar is removed and the lower spar has been reinforced to provide a rigid, rugged bike that is easier to mount and dismount.

As well, like the Zebra, the Step-Thru version has a 3.0A charger that will take the removable battery pack from absolutely drained to full charge in a little under 7 hours. This makes the bike a perfect long-distance commuter, as you can ride to work, bring the battery pack in with you, charge it under your desk or at your company’s dedicated charging area, and when you’re ready to head home, it’s topped up and ready to ride.

As well, on top of the fender kit, repair tool, and cargo rack that the standard Zebra gets, the Step-Thru, at the time of this writing, will also get a front cargo basket and a cargo rack saddlebag while supplies last.

The 2023 Zebra Step-Thru starts at $1,999 USD / $2,699 CAD

2023 Himiway Big Dog

2023 Himiway Big Dog Key Specifications

  • Price: $2,099 USD / $2,799 CAD
  • Buy: Himiway Big Dog
  • Motor: 500W continuous (750W peak) Brushless Gear Hub Motor / 86 Nm Torque
  • Est. Range: 80 mi / 128 km
  • Top Speed: 25 mph / 40 kph
  • Pedal Sensor: Cadence, with 5 PAS levels
  • Battery: 48v 20Ah Samsung/LG Lithium Battery (960Wh)
  • Transmission: Shimano 7-speed free-wheel

It seems in the modern eBike world that if you don’t have a cargo bike in your range, you’re missing out on a rapidly expanding market. With this in mind, Himiway created the Big Dog a couple of years ago, and for 2023, they’ve upgraded it into a heavier duty yet still just as capable city monster.

The 2023 edition of the Big Dog has an improved 500W gear hub motor that can now peak at 750W for short bursts of added torque. The battery has been upgraded to the new 48V 20Ah battery pack that gives an astonishing 80 mile nominal range. The Big Dog now also uses hydraulically operated disc brakes front and rear for improved stopping power.

Also upgraded for 2023 are the options for cargo racks and baskets, with a new, extended length rear rack and a shallow, hard bottom front basket both being the improved/upgraded options. The bike still has a 400 lbs payload capacity including rider, and will happily cruise on the half-twist throttle or any level of PAS at 25 MPH. With the upgraded battery pack also comes a new 3.0A smart charger, to allow for 7 hours or overnight charging that will shut off once at 100%.

As of the time of this writing, the Big Dog comes with a full mudgaurd fender kit, a 16-in1 repair tool, the standard sized Big Dog cargo rack, and a Himiway ballcap.

The 2023 Himiway Big Dog starts at $2,099 USD / $2,799 CAD

2023 Himiway Cobra

2023 Himiway Cobra Key Specifications

  • Price: $2,399 USD / $3,199 CAD
  • Buy: Himiway Cobra
  • Motor: 750W Brushless Gear Hub Motor / 86 Nm Torque
  • Est. Range: 60 to 80 mi / 100 to 128 km
  • Top Speed: 25 mph / 40 kph
  • Pedal Sensor: Cadence, with 5 PAS levels
  • Battery: 48v 20Ah Samsung/LG Lithium Battery (960Wh)
  • Transmission: Shimano 7-speed free-wheel

The Himiway Cobra is designed for the wild outdoors, as it features a fully sprung four-bar linkage suspension system for the tail of the bike, and strong sprung hydraulic coil forks for the front suspension. While labeled as a “mountain eBike,” the Cobra is would be more appropriately called an overlander, meaning that it is not as much expected to follow a trail as forge its own.

As expected from Himiway, the Cobra is packed to the fangs with the latest tech. A 48V 20Ah (960Wh) removable battery pack gives up to 80 miles of nominal range on pedal assist, and at least 60 miles on the thumb throttle. Tektro 180mm hydraulic disc brakes keep the speed of the bike in check, while the massive 26 x 4.8 inch CST fat tires find grip in even the slipperiest of conditions.

The Cobra is also capable of carrying up to 400 lbs of payload including the rider, making this a superb adventure touring bike for those that really want to get off the beaten path with a backpack full of supplies. Because of the rear suspension, the Cobra is the only eBike in Himiway’s 2023 model lineup that does not have the option of adding a cargo rack.

When not forging its own path through the backcountry, the Cobra is also an extremely competent city bike and commuter, perhaps the most comfortable of the current options thanks to its near-motorcycle level rear suspension. It simply absorbs any potholes, curbs, and cracks in the road as if they weren’t there, providing a comfortable ride even on the roughest of paths.

The 2023 Himiway Cobra starts at $2,399 USD / $3,199 CAD

2023 Himiway Cobra Pro

2023 Himiway Cobra Pro Key Specifications

  • Price: $3,999 USD / $5,299 CAD
  • Buy: Himiway Cobra Pro
  • Motor: 1,000W Brushless Mid-Drive Motor / 160 Nm Torque
  • Est. Range: 60 to 80 mi / 100 to 128 km
  • Top Speed: 25 mph / 40 kph
  • Pedal Sensor: Cadence, with 5 PAS levels
  • Battery: 48v 20Ah Samsung/LG Lithium Battery (960Wh)
  • Transmission: Shimano 10-speed gear shift system
  • Read Our Review: 2023 Himiway Cobra Pro Unboxing & Assembly

For those that want the ultimate in off-road capability, forging their own trails or simply just riding totally off the beaten path, the Himiway Cobra Pro is the tool of choice. While the regular Cobra is a very capable overlander, the Cobra Pro is the true pathfinder mountain eBike.

The biggest difference between the two is that the Pro forgoes the 750W gear hub motor for a powerful 1,000W mid-drive motor that puts down 160 Nm of torque. To handle the extra power and terrain that the Cobra Pro will likely be used on, the Shimano derailleur has been upped from 7-speeds to a full 10-speed unit, giving the bike the ability to climb even the steepest of hills while giving pedal assist to the rider.

Like its little brother, the Cobra Pro features a four-bar linkage suspension at the rear, and a sprung coil suspension at the front, absorbing the harshest of bumps and roughest terrain the eBike may encounter. It also features the same top-tier Tektro 180mm hydraulic disc brakes for supreme stopping power, and the 26 x 4.8 inch ultra-fat CST tires for grip even in a monsoon in pure mud.

Also like its little brother, the Cobra Pro is a competent and very comfortable city bike and commuter, giving the smoothest ride in the bike lanes during the week before prowling deep into the backcountry on the weekends. If you’ve been looking for a full suspension adventure bike that doesn’t need to play by the rules, the Cobra Pro is the eBike from Himiway for you.

The 2023 Himiway Cobra Pro starts at $3,999 USD / $5,299 CAD
