This is probably the most commonly used and referred to repair and maintenance manual for all BMW “Airheads”; air-cooled BMW motorcycles of the modern era, from the “slash-five” right up through the last of the air-cooled breed in 1996. I use this manual for all of the repair and maintenance work on my ’86 R65, and it has served me well.

Some of the descriptions of the procedures could be more clear, but if you take the time to read and understand before you start wrenching, you’ll be fine.

No single manual I’ve ever found for any vehicle can be used as a sole source of information, and such is the case here, but the Clymer manual is about the only decent reference out there. Let’s face it — nobody’s going to spend the time and money to write another manual on the Airhead, so thank goodness this book is still in print!
