November 10, 2011 - I stumbled upon these displays of some of the coolest-looking police motorcycles in the world.
The Moto Guzzi Norge shown below looks great in white with green markings.
As it turns out, the green is actually a highly reflective striping material, as you can see in the photo taken with the flash. The retro-reflective material really "pops".
Would like to have some of that for my bike for night riding!
The BMW RT looks great also, in a rather strange shade of what can only be known as periwinkle.
In the U.S.A., police seem to want to camouflage their vehicles. Police motorcycles are black and olive green in Maryland! You'd think they'd want to be more visible to be a deterrent in traffic, as they are in Italy, Germany and the UK.
[UPDATE (From "J.W."): "Enjoying your installments from EICMA. Regarding that cool, electric green Italiano Police tape, when you get back ... investigate that stuff through 3M. I worked for a gas utility in Florida whose colors were metallic blue and white, and we had big rolls of it in the a dark metallic blue that would reflect like crazy . . . . lots of it 'walked off' and wound up as racing stripes on employee cars . . . . Ciao !"]
By the way, the Italian police force -- local and Carabinieri -- have some of the best-looking uniforms anywhere. I have to say, when a pair of them walks by (why are they always in pairs?), it's impressive, immediately putting me on my best behavior. Maybe I've been watching too much Commisario Montalbano TV episodes...
Anyway, just nearby was a display of a Kymco scooter for La Poste, the French postal service. The company that had the scooter makes waterproof luggage (whch I'm going to follow up). These scooters with the big baskets and mail carriers are used in France, the UK, Italy, Germany and several other postal services around the world.
I wish I had one to go back and forth downtown every day where I live!
