The 2020 Indian Chief Vintage is a motorcycle that hearkens back to the 1950’s and the classic style of touring cruisers of that era, while also giving the rider a slew of modern touches that lay beneath the skin. Powered by a 1,819cc liquid cooled 49 degree v-twin that Indian dubs the Thunder Stroke 111, 79 HP, and 119 lbs-ft of torque are available to your right wrist, sent to the rear wheel through a 6 speed transmission.
In terms of the high tech touches, a highly engineered aluminum frame that reduces unsprung weight allows for agile handling, as well as having selectable riding modes, which include tour, standard, and sport. As well, the Thunder Stroke 111 engine features a rear-cylinder disable that automatically activates if you’re travelling very slowly or the bike detects stop-and-go situations such as city traffic.
The Chief Vintage, however, isn’t a bike meant for the city. The classic looks, the power, the standard touring windshield and triple headlight cluster on the chromed front forks… they all yearn for the highway.
