How do motocross gloves differ from off-road & dirt bike gloves?

Off-road and dirtbike gloves often feature significant knuckle and finger armoring, to prevent branches and trail debris from impacting your hands. Motocross gloves are meant to be used on motocross bikes and motocross courses, where packed dirt with little to no debris is expected, and are generally lightly armored, if they are armored at all, with impact foam to keep them as light as possible.

Can I use motocross gloves for general riding on the street?

In a pinch, yes. However, due to their intended purpose, they do not provide nearly as much weather protection, and have little to no abrasion resistance. You would be much better off using a street-specific short glove to keep your hands safe.

What are the main features of motocross gloves?

These gloves are designed to provide excellent ventilation and grip during competition. Because of this, it is quite rare for motocross gloves to feature more than a sparse amount of armoring, which makes them extremely lightweight.

What is the most common material motocross gloves are made from?

Most motocross gloves are made from a combination of stretchy synthetic fibers for the back, and either microfiber, suede, or silicone-infused materials on the palm and fingers to provide the best grip on the handlebars. Very rarely, the gloves will also feature full grain leather palms with impact foam at the palm heel.

Do motocross gloves work for trail, enduro, or pathfinding riding?

Yes, these gloves are cross-compatible with most other types of off-road riding. They will also work for ADV riding in a pinch, but there are better and more specific gloves for adventure riding.

Are motocross gloves waterproof?

For the most part, no. Since most motocross and supercross competitions occur either indoors or during days when no adverse weather is expected, waterproofing is not a major consideration. Motocross gloves are designed to provide decent protection but be well ventilated to keep your hands dry while racing.
