2022 Ducati Monster & Monster Plus

The Ducati Gold Standard

Monsters are often found lurking in the shadows ready to pounce at any given moment. They are typically the product of myth and legend; much like the Monster that this article is based on. Ducati’s most legendary motorcycle in their lineup just happens to be that exact Monster, and after some big revisions in the last few years, it’s now arguably better than ever.

The newly redesigned Monster is built around a new 937cc L-twin mill capable of producing 111 horsepower and 69 lb-ft of torque. Although these power figures aren’t a staggering difference when matched against the outgoing 821, the real breadwinner comes in the form of a major weight loss program.

The engineers over at everyone’s favorite Bologna-based factory have managed to shed an astounding 32 pounds from the overall weight of the motorcycle. Typically more power = more weight, but Ducati has decided to take the reductive approach to the equation and double down on the fun agility-based nature of the Monster; truly bringing it back to its pure essence.

To aid with the weight loss delivered by the new engine, the outdated steel trellis frame has been updated with a far lighter cast-aluminum counterpart and glass-fiber reinforced subframe to really add insult to injury when destroying the twisties.

Brembo stopping power, a 43mm fork and adjustable rear shock, and all the computational aids that you would expect to find in a premium Italian motorcycle all work in perfect synchronicity to deliver a Monster that handles better than ever before.

The best part? The Italian builder has marketed this model as the gateway into the Ducati universe and it now stands as the perfect entry point into their 2022 lineup thanks to its manageable price point. For riders that enjoy a little extra sauce on their Italian sub, a ‘Plus’ (or just ‘+’) variant is offered for several extra hundred dollars and includes a minimalist windscreen and passenger seat cover for some added swag to your beast.

The 2022 Ducati Monster starts at $11,995 USD / $13,795 CAD.

The 2022 Ducati Monster Plus starts at $12,495 USD / $14,395 CAD.
