Get Ready!

Starting on Wednesday, October 16, I’ll be reporting live from the AIMExpo show in Orlando, Florida.

This time, I’ll be posting quick updates from the show on the webBikeWorld Twitter feed, along with the webBikeWorld Facebook page and the webBikeWorld Google+ page.

If you don’t have a Facebook account, you can also view the webBikeWorld Facebook posts on this webBikeWorld page.

As time allows, I’ll follow up with more detailed reports, photos and videos of all the new products for 2014.

What Is It?

The American International Motorcycle Expo is a new event which is hoped to become a sort of “EICMA of the U.S.A.”.

We’ll see if the results can live up to the expectations!

It looks promising — so far, over 300 exhibitors have signed on, including motorcycle manufacturers Suzuki and Yamaha and many other brands.

Background

The AIMExpo event was developed as a counterpoint to the long-running Powersports Dealer Expo, traditionally held in February in Indianapolis.

Many Dealer Expo attendees have complained for years that a motorcycle dealer show that introduces new products to the dealers should be held in the Fall, rather than in February, for a number of reasons.

First, there’s the weather in Indianapolis. And then there’s Indianapolis…in February.

No offense, Naptowners, but a show in Orlando, Las Vegas, San Diego or Los Angeles would probably have greater attendance any time of the year — and especially in February.

Also, it’s important for dealers to see the new products that will be introduced by the manufacturers in the Fall of the year, so they can place their orders for the following year in time for the manufacturers to make the stuff during the winter.

By time February rolls around, orders have already been placed and shelves are ready to be stocked.

So will the AIMExpo kill the Dealer Expo? Probably. Just a couple of weeks ago, the Dealer Expo announced they were changing the date and location of their show…to Chicago in December.

All I can say is, good luck with that one!

But the success of the AIMExpo will depend on this first show, so I’m sure the organizers will go all out to make it work. Some of the big players are still missing, including BMW, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki and more.

But I’ve also talked to a few of their representatives, who said they’ll have staff at the show to evaluate the possibilities for the future.

AIMExpo Event Schedule

The AIMExpo show starts on Wednesday, October 16 and runs through Sunday, October 20 at the Orange County Convention Center on International Drive in Orlando. For more information, visit the AIMExpo website.

Press days are the 16th through the 18th and the general public can view the show on Saturday and Sunday.
