KTM Announces Details for 390 Adventure for North America

2020 KTM 390 Adventure
KTM's 390 Adventure

It Is Coming Soon

The KTM 390 Adventure is one of the bikes that a lot of people are excited about. The motorcycle offers adventure capability in a smaller, more easily manageable package unlike many other options out there. Right now the bike is not yet available, but that will change come May.

KTM North America sent out a press release showcasing the details of the new model. The company also let it be known that the 390 Adventure would hit dealership showroom floors in May 2020. That’s right around the corner, and if you wanted one of these machines, then you don’t have long to wait. Get your bank account ready.

The bike will be more or less exactly the same as the 390 Adventure sold in other parts of the world. It will have a liquid-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke engine that has a displacement of 373.2cc. It’s the same engine that is in the 390 Duke. The Adventure also comes with lean-sensitive traction control, slipper clutch, WP APEX suspension, ByBre brake calipers, two-channel ABS from Bosch with a switchable Off-Road mode.

Overall, this is a really killer bike that makes a lot of sense for KTM, and I expect the company will sell many of them. It’s unclear how Coronovirus will impact sales of this new model. Sales across the industry and globe are down, but that’s to be expected with may people on lockdown. Hopefully, the situation with the Coronavirus will get better soon and we can all go out and enjoy our KTM 390 Adventures. After they get here in May, that is.

    1. Hi Brian! I saw this bike launched at EICMA and some of them had KTM factory luggage on them.
Don’t worry about accessories. Physically this bike is almost the same size as the 790 and will undoubtedly get the full attention of companies like Givi, SW Motech and others who will build racks for it.
A better option in my opinion for smaller adv bikes like this one would be the rackless systems that are gaining popularity. They’re easily half the price of hard luggage, are more robust, lighter and won’t break your leg if you crash and it lands on you.
I just received the brand new Mosko Moto Reckless 80L v3.0 Revolver luggage for review. I’m impressed with it just from the glimpse I’ve taken so far, but it needs to be run through it’s paces yet to know.
Have a look at my preview article on it. https://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-luggage-preview-mosko-moto-reckless-80l-v3-0-revolver/

  1. Thanks. I get the value proposition, I just don’t know how much dirt I would actually do with the KTM 390 ADV. As an urban commuter, with the ability to duck down trails, hard bags still have an appeal. KTMs accessories are already on a site in India.

    1. That makes a lot of sense because that 390 will be hugely popular in India. It’s good to hear there are already add ons available for the bike. When I first got my 790 last year there were parts I could order from KTM directly, but I didn’t receive most of them until 4 months after getting the bike. Hopefully they learned from that experience.

I find that typically I leave my SW Motech top box on my 790 adventure for commuting or general tomfoolery. It provides plenty of storage and locks conveniently. If I go on a longer trip that’s when the soft bags come along to haul all my junk around.
