Vemar Attivo Flip-up: Video and More Pics Added.

Ducati Streetfighter 848 Photos and Video!

Quick look at the KTM 990 Adventure with photos and a video walk-around. Not much has changed but it’s a cool-looking bike nevertheless, made more so with the Touratech luggage.

New Vemar Storm helmet appears to have excellent quality and rumors are the price will be very reasonable! I also added a video of the new Vemar Attivo flip-up.

The show was over last week but there’s much more to report. Today I have more photos and a walk-around video of the stunning Streetfighter 848, which I think is now my favorite Ducati!

Givi Luggage Quick Look

2012 Caberg Helmets Overview

Caberg Duke Flip-up Helmet

Back from Israel and it was a long, long trip. Here’s a tip: if you travel to Tel Aviv, give yourself at least 3 hours before the flight departs to check in at the airport. My flight left at 05:30 am and the hotel was about 1/2 hour away. Do the math and I had to get up at 01:50 am!

Four hours to Frankfurt, a two hour layover and a 9 hour flight home due to headwinds. Then a 1.5 hour drive home…OK, I was tired!

So I took yesterday off as a rest day. Here’s a preview of the new Caberg Duke flip-up, the replacement for the Konda and the Trip before that.

UPDATE: Just added an overview of the rest of the 2012 Caberg Helmets.

UPDATE: Quick look at some nice semi-hard Givi luggage for the Kawasaki Z1000 and other bikes.

wBW World Exclusive! Cardo Scala Rider G9!

Clover Tekno EN Level 2 Jacket and Pants!

Just posted: a World Exclusive preview of the new Cardo Scala Rider G9 intercom! It’s a real game-changer and we’ll have lots more about this interesting new system as we put it through its paces.

And here’s something motorcyclists have been waiting for: a jacket and pants outfit that has been tested to meet the highest level of safety standards. The Clover Tekno jacket and pants meet EN Level 2 tests. This article includes a video of the abrasion testing and believe me, after you watch it, you won’t want to be wearing anything else!

Tuesday, November 15

Off to the Cardo Systems HQ here in Tel Aviv, so no EICMA postings today. Still plenty of things to report on, so stay tuned. I’ll report back also tonight with a quick update on today’s meetings.

Aprilia SRV and Piaggio Group

More Photos and Info on 2012 Falco Boots

The Aprilia SRV is an 850 cc, V-twin scooter with something like 76 HP! It was introduced at EICMA 2011 and here are some photos and a video, along with photos of other assorted Piaggio products from their massive display “neighborhood”.

Just posted photos and information on more new Falco boots for 2012, along with a description and photos of some of the new technologies that will be incorporated, including removable and replaceable boot liners. Give your summer boots winter warmth with a quick switch of the liner!

Sunday, November 13

Suzuki Marine, Extreme and Golf Concepts

The show is over but I’ll be continuing the reporting for another week or so, as there is a lot more to tell. I’m also on this side trip to Cardo Systems in Tel Aviv (more), which will slow down the EICMA reporting for a couple of days.

In the meantime, today I’m presenting the Suzuki concept bikes, including the Suzuki “Marine”, the Suzuki “Extreme” and the Suzuki “Golf”. I won’t spoil the fun here, but you have to see these things and hopefully you’ll laugh as loud as I did when I first laid eyes on them.

BMW C 600 Scooter!

2012 Honda Crossrunner

Lazer Monaco Super-Light Flip-up!

The BMW C 600 is a massive undertaking that places BMW Motorrad on an entirely new course. This isn’t just any scooter — there are plenty of those at this year’s EICMA show — it’s a BMW!

A great deal of thought went into the design and this may just the the first scooter that actually hits the big time in the U.S.A. It appears to me to be a valid alernative to a motorcycle and/or a too-big touring bike.

Lots to discuss, including photos and a video I took at the show, so check it out!

Another look at the Honda Crossrunner, a rather strange motorcycle that’s starting to look better, especially with its Givi luggage.

Also posted, a quick look at the Lazer Monaco, which may very well be the lightest weight flip-up ever.

Nolan N-104 Helmet Preview!

Ducati 1199 Panigale instrument cluster demo video added. Info, Photos and Video!

The new Nolan N-104 was shown at EICMA 2011 and it’s a stunner! Some revolutionary new technology should keep the N-100 series in its position as one of the most popular flip-up helmets of all time!

I found the manufacturer of the instrument cluster and software for the Ducati 1199 Panigale and they had a demonstration, it is very interesting, kind of a cross between a video display, computer and traditional speedometer and tachometer.

Just for fun: Suomy Helmet Video

Ducati 1199 Panigale photos and a video from this morning at the EICMA opening day!

Ducati Superquadro Engine photos and video walk-around from this morning!

I was a bit surprised to find zero crowds this morning on the opening day of EICMA 2011. Last year, the entry hall was packed like a can of sardines.

This year, maybe a handful of people. I’m not sure why, but it sure made it a lot easier to pick up the press passes for me and Alice Dryden (London), who is assisting with the live reporting for a couple of days.

The first day is usually a stroll through the entire show, which means 7 buildings this year. This helps one get oriented and ready for the booth appointments that will take up the rest of the week.

So today it was a focus on the motorcycles. We noticed many scooters on display this year; in fact, BMW has basically nothing new in the way of motorcycles but has about 1/3 of their display turned over to what is now called the C 600 scooter family.

The C 600 is based on last year’s BMW Concept C scooter (report), first shown at the EICMA show in 2010.

It’s a bit strange to see BMW so focused on scooters, but apparently they’ve done their homework and that’s where the market is headed, like it or not.

At least the C 600 is a nice-looking scoot, with — get this — heated grips, a heated seat and an optional heated passenger seat! More on these later on this week, along with many more interesting motorcycles and accessories from EICMA 2011!

Monday, November 7

Ducati 1199 Panigale and Superquadro Engine initial press release (live pics and video tomorrow!).

2012 BMW G 650 GS Sertao initial press release (live pics and video this week!).

Arrived in Milan (Rho actually) after a loooong overnight flight and it’s pouring rain again, just like last year!

November is apparently the rainy season in northern Italy and it’s like what we would call a Nor’easter back home. Wind and rain so heavy, it blew the doors off the front of the hotel — literally!

Internet access was out in the hotel for the last 24 hours, not a good sign. I’m back up now, so keep your fingers crossed that the Internet gods will remain satisfied over the next week.

The show starts tomorrow morning, 9:00 am local time (3:00 am east coast U.S. time!) and one of the first things I want to do is see the new Ducati 1199 Panigale with the awesome new “Superquadro” engine. I should be able to start uploading reports, photos and video around 7:00 pm local time, which is 1:00 pm on the east coast.

During the week, I’ll have reports, photos and video of the new 2012 Triumph Tiger Explorer (Press Release, Pics) and lots more. And I plan on stopping by the Shark Helmet booth to see what’s up with U.S. distribution and sales.

And how about this: I’ll report on the new BikeComm and Interphone intercoms, said to have cross-brand communications capabilities, allowing bike-to-bike and rider-to-pasenger communications with Bluetooth intercoms of other brands! That’s what they say anyway, I’ll see if it’s true. (We have a BikeComm system currently in the evaluation process). More to come…

Get Ready!

It’s back to Milan for the 69th EICMA International Motorcycle Exhibition!

I’ll be reporting live during the show, exclusively for webBikeWorld.com visitors. Coverage will start on November 8, 2011, the first day of the show.

The box on the left will expand to contain the links to the various articles and product announcements made prior to and during the show. Some product announcements have already arrived and the links on the left will become “live” as new information is posted.

I’ll follow up these leads with photos, videos and a live report from EICMA 2011 during the event.

Once the show gets underway, more information and links to the live reports from EICMA will be added to this page daily, starting on November 8, so check back often.

Don’t forget, there’s a plus-six-hour time difference from Milan to the east coast of the U.S., so expect the first report sometime around 15:00 EDT in the U.S. on November 8, 2011.

About EICMA 2011

EICMA is the Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo e Motociclo e Accessori, or “International Exposition of Bicycles and Motorcycles and Accessories”.  It’s held each year near Milan, Italy, in the massively huge Fiera Milano expo center outside of the suburb of Rho, Italy.

EICMA is the largest motorcycle trade show in the world and, just like last year (report), all of the major manufacturers will be there with many brand new announcements and product releases.

More visitors are expected this year and EICMA management has added another building, for a total of 7 to hold the 610 exhibitors expected to arrive from 37 countries. It will take 135,000 square meters of display space to hold everything!

Attendance of approximately 500,000 people is expected during the week and we’ll be covering the event live from the show with reports, updates, photos and video, just like I do each year from the Powersports Dealer Expo in Indianapolis (2011 report).

You’ll have a ringside seat for the latest info on all of the new motorcycles, products and accessories for 2012 as it happens!

EICMA 2011 Preview

Some of the exciting news that I’ll cover at this year’s event includes the official release of the new2012 Triumph Tiger Explorer (info and pics), a 1200cc, shaft drive, 950W alternator competitor to the famed BMW R1200GS.

Ducati will formally release the new 1199 Panigale with the brand-new “Superquadro” mind-bending over-square engine. They’ll also have the new Streetfighter 848 at the show and there will be lots more, as always, with new product announcements for clothing, helmets and more.

If you would like to learn more about a specific product, or if you have a request for photos or information on a specific product, let me know. You can reach me at editor@webbikeworld.com

I may not be able to respond immediately or at all to your email, but I read them all and I’ll do what I can for you. It should be an exciting event with lots of stories to tell, so hang on for the ride!

BONUS: Cardo Wireless Headquarters Tour!

I’ll be headed to Tel Aviv, Israel, right after the EICMA show for a personal and exclusive tour of the Cardo Wireless headquarters!

More on the visit here and I’ll report back to you with all the details. In the meantime, send me your questions and feedback for an “Ask the Engineer” session!
