What Would You Love?

The Caberg Jet ‘Ghost’ helmet is a Matt Black/White shell and comes with a Legend graphic. It is just a white stripe, offset to the right, with two thin accent lines running parallel. Simple, but very effective.

Caberg has opted for the Micrometric buckle for single handed operation instead of a Double-D ring setup. It fits well with the one-handed operation of the visor and mask combined. A removable nose shield is also included making this setup extremely modular.

The helmet comes ready for Caberg’s Just Speak S Bluetooth communication system. The entire unit can be safely fit in the recess below the lining, and provides extra space for the speakers as well.

The face mask is a fantastic addition and it is what gives this helmet its special shape. It can be taken off very easily resulting in a fully customizable lid. The highly modular design can be used in four different configurations. Full face, full face without nose guard, half face and half face without nose guard. You can try out these combinations by removing or attaching the visor, face mask and the foam liner.

Caberg has distanced itself a little from glue by riveting the rim to the helmet at the brow and used steel in the neck inlets. This is a positive step forward as far as improving the overall finishing of the helmet is concerned, by the Italian company.

The Top Features to Look Out For

With style like this, the Caberg Ghost is expected to have unique characteristics too. Let’s find out.

Shell

At 2lbs. 8oz., this helmet is the lightest one you can put on even in the XL size. Amazing! The shape is more of an intermediate round, so people with narrower heads are going to have it rough at the forehead area.

The shell construction is a tri-composite one. Caberg has used Fiber Glass, Kevlar as well as Carbon to achieve a solid, rigid skeleton. A lot of helmet makers are using Dyneema and Spectra while reinforcing their helmets. So you can safely assume that Caberg will not be far behind.

Caberg Ghost comes with a double shell size to put out 6 configurations for finding out your special fit.

Visors

Caberg has used a scratch resistant visor with this helmet, considering the rough use each unit is going to go through. As a bonus, they made it easier to install and remove a double PinLock Max Vision lens. Moreover, the lens is also included in the box!

For people looking to customize their helmets there are 6 different visor tints available. One of them has a golden finish to help you pretend to be the old Halo Masterchief too. The visor foam profile with excellent finish and dual reinforcements keep the visor intact and fit snugly, once closed. Still, for maximum customization, Caberg has made the visor foam profile available in 3 sizes 18 mm, 21mm and 25 mm.

The Ghost features a spring tilting system to open the visor and face mask with only one hand. You just pull the assembly outwards and then rotate it upwards to have it in your hands in no time at all.

The removal of the assembly is a bit complicated and requires the use of your screwdriver, but an instruction manual shows you how to do that in a step-by-step manner.

Ventilation

Since its DNA is open face, the Carbon Ghost does not have much going on for itself in the ventilation department. They do provide a bug guard to catch those gnats when you are riding open face, so that’s something.

The open face nature should provide all the cooling you can ever demand from this lid.

Padding and Lining

The ‘sanitized’ liner and inner ‘breathable’ fabric feels rather comfortable even with its multi-beveled, elongated honeycomb-weave construction. It is housed in a faux leather outline that feels very much like the famous ‘Italian’ leather.

Customer Reviews

The helmet scores excellent in almost all areas and most customers were pulled in by the noticeable shape itself. There were no complaints about noise; well, because of the absence of any active venting scheme.

But the downside is that the Helmet is only ECE 22.05 certified which is most of the Europe. If you are importing it in US or Canada, there is no DOT rating to look forward to.

Bottom Line

Molto bene! This is a beautiful helmet to get your hands on if the words ‘cruising’ or ‘café racer’ ring in your ears and head all the time. Super lightweight, macho Special Forces look, sturdy construction, amazingly retro modular design and the PinLock should be enough to sway the decision in the favor of your credit card.

Uno ottimo casco italiano!
