Shoei RYD is a compact motorcycle helmet

Shoei RYD helmet

The Shoei RYD helmet uses four different outer shell sizes to achieve a compact size and light weight, no matter how big your head is.

Helmet sizing is usually achieved by having only a couple of different shell sizes and fitting different width liners to achieve fit.

Shoei has used four shell sizes in the RYD so the helmet won’t look too big, or feel too heavy, on your head.

The RYD street/sport full-face helmet was launched at the Intermot show in Cologne this month. It is due in shops early 2017.

It will come in five plain colours: tangerine, black, white, matte black and grey. There is no word on graphics.Shoei RYD helmet

There is also no word yet on whether it will be available in Australia. In the UK, it will retail for £349.99 (about $A560, but it will cost more than that.)

It features an organic fibre and multi-composite fibre in various layers for a shock-absorbent shell with optimum rigidity.

In the recent Canstar Blue ratings on motorcycles and motorcycle products, Shoei top-scored with a maximum five stars in the helmet section.

While the helmet has not yet been rated by the revered SHARP helmet Safety Scheme, Shoei usually rates three to five stars.

Shoei RYD features:

  • CWR-1 Visor system with Pinlock anti-fog system;
  • Double-D ring chin strap;
  • Detachable and washable centre pad, cheek pads and chin strap cover;
  • Ear pods to reduce noise;
  • Venting inlets at the brow and two outlet vents at the rear; and
  • Spoiler for improved aerodynamic performance.
