About Rusty Stitches

Company History

Rusty Stitches started as an idea in 2013 in Edinburg, the capital of Scotland.

Amidst Scotland’s topography of whisky distilleries and beautiful lochs, an idea had been brewing in the mind of founder and all-around bike aficionado, Joshua Nap.

Joshua Nap wanted to create a motorcycle gear brand that stood out from the rest, yet remained engaged with its customer base and their needs.

Over the next 3 years, Joshua developed the core message of his brand while brainstorming the logistics of how to bring the company to a wider audience. In order to do that, Joshua needed a partner.

Enter Jopa Racing Products: an international wholesaler of road, racing, and motocross gear.

In 2016, a partnership was finalized and in 2017, Rusty Stitches’ first collection was produced. Since then, the brand has evolved to bring more than 70+ products including helmets, jackets, pants, and accessories to the powersports industry for riders of all ages.

Rusty Stitches has a strong presence in the Netherlands, Germany and Austria. The moto apparel company has also been making strides toward the broader market. RS products can be found with distributors such as MotoIN and XLMoto. We hope to see this list continue to grow as time goes on!

Philosophy

So what is Rusty Stitches’ approach to their products?

They’ve made a name for themselves in the segment of urban riding gear. As their team puts it:

“We are dedicated to bring bikers the very best motorcycle fashion and also make it affordable. Our inspiration comes from the out-of-the-box thinkers and fashion enthusiasts. Resulting in unique motorcycle fashion pieces. But this is just the beginning, our range grow and we continues to do so, but our key values always remain the same: Cool and affordable motorcycle fashion.”

True to their vision, what they’ve done in their product design is combine form and function while making their offerings affordable to a broad audience. Looking through their most recent collection, it’s clear that Rusty Stitches has successfully created kickass gear that looks great.

CE Certification

Rusty Stitches takes the safety game seriously and, in light of this, all of their products have gone through CE certification.

For the uninitiated, CE certification follows protection standards set by the European Union (EU). This certification is mandatory for certain products sold within the EU, which just happens to include motorcycle gear.

With any motorcycle gear that bears the CE marking, it has been thoroughly tested to protect riders. Safety matters to our team here at webBikeWorld and it’s great to see that Rusty Stitches shares the same values.

A Wide Selection of Fashionable Choices

As we mentioned, the Rusty Stitches collection has blossomed into a wide range of products.

In their jacket collection, the Jari & Joyce V2 are their best-selling leather jackets since their debut in 2017 and lends itself well to the cafe / cruiser-style. They also have a more urban alternative which is their Jari Hooded V2.

While Rusty Stitches has a heavy focus on jackets, they also have CE-approved pant options as well.

For the gals, there’s an extensive list of leather and textile/mesh jackets, as well as riding shirts like the Dolly Denim Jacket which incorporates CE2 protection for the elbow and shoulders and is fully lined with Kevlar®.

The Dolly denim jacket includes CE shoulder and elbow protection and an optional back protector.

A typical motorcycle riding shirt has abrasion resistance and may even go so far as to include basic armor. Rusty Stitches levels up with a design thoughtfulness that truly embraces rider safety, such as including a spot to add a D30 back protector, keeping up with renowned industry brands such as REV’IT! and Icon.

Collaborations and Initiatives

What we love about Rusty Stitches is the uniqueness of the brand and the company values. Sure, the fashion is great but what sets them apart is that they incorporate a sense of fun to the work.

Custom Monkey Project

Custom Honda Monkey Build

As the adage goes, “find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

The team at Rusty Stitches subscribes to this truth. It’s only fitting that the company mascot (a monkey, in case you missed it) gets a sick ride in the form of a custom Honda Monkey, an iconic mini-moto bike that has been around for over 60 years.

Together with Moto Adonis, the Rusty Stitches team rebuilt the entire bike:

  • Black/white repaint scheme
  • 12” oversized wheels with Maxxis NSR tires
  • Front and rear shocks
  • Round LED headlight
  • Aluminum handlebars with Biltwell grips
  • 2-piston caliper conversion and disk brake upgrade
  • Custom-built subframe with cafe racer-style seat.

Check out their Monkey Project page to learn about the rebuild in more detail.

Motormeiden

Rusty Stitches also partnered with Motormeiden in a competition to create a motorcycle jacket for female riders. More than 200+ competitors submitted their design which resulted in the creation of the Anna jacket.

If you’ve been a long-time webBikeWorld follower, you’ll know that we’re big believers in bringing cool gear to female riders. Motormeiden is one of Netherland’s biggest powersport communities for women and it’s great to see partnerships that bring brands together.
