Honda recalls CRF450R over gear issue

Honda CRF450R

Honda Australia has recalled 2015/2016 model CRF450R off-road motocross for a potentially defective transmission countershaft fifth gear.

The gear is used for engaging third gear and may break under certain riding conditions causing the transmission to seize.

This could cause the rear wheel of the CRF450R to lock and through the rider off the bike.

Owners are advised to contact their nearest Honda Motorcycle Dealer and arrange to have the countermeasure part installed for free.

Affected CRF450R bikes have VIN (Vehicle identification numbers) from JH2PE05U6FK400001 to JH2PE05U2FK401100 and JH2PE05U0GK500001 to JH2PE05U4GK500888.

YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS ON RECALLS

Recall notices are issued by the manufacturer through a voluntary industry code under the ACCC.

Despite hundreds of recalls by various automotive manufacturers, only a handful have been mandatory. All others have been issued by the manufacturer.

While any recall is not good news for the manufacturer, it shows that they are largely diligent in fixing problems.

In Australia, recalls are issued through the federal Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development (DIRD), Vehicle Safety Standards division (VSS), and posted by the Australian Consumer and Competition Competition Commission (ACCC).

If you believe there is an endemic problem with your bike that should be recalled, contact the ACCC on 1300 302 502.
