Caberg Konda - First Look

Caberg Konda Helmet

Caberg Konda Flip-Up Motorcycle Helmet

November, 2009 - Caberg has announced a new flip-up (modular) motorcycle helmet, the Caberg Konda, which was announced at the 2009 EICMA trade show in Milan.

The Konda replaces the Caberg Trip (review) for 2010.  Caberg helmets, which are known for their innovation and style, will continue to produce the long-lived (and well-regarded) Caberg Justissimo GT (review), along with the new Caberg Sintesi (review) only recently reviewed on webBikeWorld.com.

Caberg has also updated the Sintesi, and we have a size L and XL currently in the evaluation process and will report on those in a follow-up review.  The two helmets represent two shell sizes for the Sintesi, so we'll be reporting on those differences also.

The Konda continues Caberg's innovative styling theme, and it looks somewhat reminiscent of the Caberg Trip.

Caberg said the Konda is the result of their long experience in producing flip-up helmets; in fact, Caberg says they were the first Italian company to produce a flip-up.

The company also said that the Konda "offers the safety as of a full face helmet together with the handiness of a jet helmet".  We understand this to mean that the Konda can be worn with the visor rotated all the way up while riding, which is a feature pioneered by Caberg on the Sintesi (review) helmet.

The Konda also features a "Double Visor Tech" system with an internally rotating sun visor.  The transparent face shield is claimed scratch- and fog-resistant.

Caberg said that the visor quick release system doesn’t require the use of tools.  The liner in the Konda is removable and washable and includes hypoallergenic and moisture-wicking fabrics.

Other features of the Caberg Konda include:

  • The EPS liner also includes channels to assist ventilation.

  • The chin strap on the Konda uses an adjustable buckle.

  • Ventilation is provided by an air vent on top and by a series of air inlet channels on the chin guard.

  • A chin curtain is standard.

  • The Konda is also preset for the Caberg "Just Speak" wireless Bluetooth communication system.  This system acts as a rider-to-passenger intercom; it connects with a cell phone; a GPS system and can stream music from an MP3 player.

  • The outer shell of the Konda is made from thermoplastic.

  • The chin guard uses a single opening button.

  • Available sizes will include XS, S, M, L and XL.

  • The helmet is homologated to ECE 22.05 safety standards as a full-face helmet.

  • Colors include Metal Black; Matte Black; White; Silver.  The Konda will also be available in the graphic version shown above, which features a Matte Black base.

We hope to have a Konda for a webBikeWorld review as soon as possible.  Source:  Caberg Press release, edited by webBikeWorld.com
