Let’s jump right in!

Motorcycle Helmet Lights

Increasing your footprint on the road, especially at night is easy by adding some more light to your ride. And not on your bike, on your helmet.

Getting started guide: How to Light up your helmet like Tron.

And lets be honest, who doesn’t love neon lights? So, when lighting up your helmet – the highest part of your entire setup’s footprint-  do you use EL wire or LED’s?

You could put flashing LED’s on your motorcycle with a kit too, or reflective neon rings around the inside of your wheels pretty easily. Some are even remote controlled! It’s up to you, but I personally love the helmet light kits that are available to make it easy to make it look great and stay on for the lifetime of the helmet.

Motorcycle Helmet Mohawks

There are a few different types of Mohawks available: The easiest to install would be known as the “Sawblade” or “Warhawk” accessory. This is a flexible rubber strip with 3M adhesive on the back that peels off and simple sticks down to any flat surface. In our use case, a motorcycle helmet. There are a couple different variations of this, but they are pretty similar minus some small design changes. Some you can stick on a super reflective sticker to the side of each blade, and it looks like it glows in the dark!

The other type is the real deal mohawk. This come mounted on top of a Spartan helmet, and looks like real hair fixed on top of a Roman-ish style standoff.

Helmet Spikes & Spike Strips

Adding a couple of these spikes to the top of your lid turns your helmet into a make-shift weapon in the zombie apoc.

One big one right on the tippy top of your lid should do the trick. Adding them to a crystal/gem pattern turns out pretty cool too.

Because this is a screw on accessory, you are obviously going to need to drill a hole through your helmet to screw it down from the inside out.

So they are really not limited to helmets. You can screw them into anywhere that you can get to both side of the material, like a rat rod bike or your sweet 80’s shoulder pads.

You can also get spikes in full strips just like a mohawk.

Motorcycle Helmet Bows

Motorcycle Helmet Bows

Bows are a fancy way to jazz up your favorite helmet too.

There are a multitude of colors and patterns to choose from that will match up with your helmet. Pink, black, green, glitter, the choices are only limited by what you are able to dream up.

These are fixed to a piece of velcro that sticks to your helmet surface. That’s so you don’t have to glue them down to your lid to travel at high speeds. The velcro does a pretty nice jobs at speeds of 75 (and up), and you can transfer them to your other Crowns,… I mean helmets.

Check out all these by Lucky Yogi on Etsy and you will defiantly find one that you are just going to love!

Motorcycle Helmet Horns

These cool little suction cup devil horns are easily added to any smooth surface. They do stick down to matte paint, but not very well.

Glossy surfaces are recommended.

While 2 up in the front is the most common pattern, think outside the norm just a little and come up with some other uses for them too!

They can be lined up like a mohawk, turn downwards or added to the chin-bar, and even just add a single one to the center on the top of the helmet like a unicorn.

Cat Ear Helmet Upgrade

The motorcycle Cat Ear Accessory can be add on top of any helmet. Flexible rubber with industrial strength 3m double sided adhesive attaches this awesome add on to any smooth surface.

Just peel and stick on. Doesn’t get much easier than that.

HelmetUpgrades is currently taking pre-orders on this, so you are going to get a huge discount for getting in early.

You may have to wait until the product is ready-to-ship, but the discount is defiantly worth it.

Motorcycle Helmet Pigtails & Ponytails

Pigtails: Now these can get pretty fun to customize! The dual pigtails come in a multitude of color choices. At 12′ long these can be braided, straightened, or curled to your liking.

Ponytails

These Ponytails by Proxvost are available in just about any color combination and style that you could ever want to put on your helmet. You can temporarily affix them, or glue them down should you choose to, up to you. More styles/colors here.

Motorcycle Helmet Face Shields/Guards

This is a not new concept to motorcycle safety. Wind burn and sunburn are not the only protection here though. A sturdy leather or metal face mask can keep your face from skidding down the pavement at 70mph.

And let’s not forget about the June bugs.

Custom motorcycle helmet face mask

An alternative to a full face shield is a motorcycle helmet face mask. These are a few custom ones, and they range in creativity from a flat piece of plastic, to steam-punk and more. Some paintball face masks make for awesome motorcycle masks to pound back the rain too. These are my 11 favorite leather masks from independent retailers on Etsy.

Motorcycle Helmet Visor Decals and Stickers

These motorcycle helmet face shield decals are extremely easy to install on your helmet’s shield and protects you from the stray ultra violet rays of the sun.

Motorcycle helmet stickers and decals are another easy way to customize your favorite helmet. And some of them get pretty raunchy!

Visor Decals are a great way to dress up your full face helmet on the cheap, if you don’t want to foot the bill for a full custom airbrush paint job.

Check out this collection.

Also check out these offensive stickers if you are not easily offended.

Helmet Audio and Communication

There’s nothing like bobbing your head down the road to your jam. You big ol’ baggers know what I am talking about!

So you can either add speakers inside your helmet or use earbuds right? Wrong. Cords can be a pain, and bluetooth batteries can die in wireless setups before you leave the driveway.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve done both of those for years before buying the Street Glide I have now.

Check out these other options for audio, and these for communications.

Motorcycle Helmet Cameras

gopro helmet cameraOne of the best accessories that you can invest in is a helmet cam for riding your motorcycle. Recording your rides (all of them, of just the scenic parts) is a fun way to make even more memories. Hooking one up is not as hard as you may think.

And it’s not like you’re going to take a video of yourself while attempting a gnarly trick, biff it and then share it with the world in HD. That’s what you friends are for!

But just in case you do, there are numerous wireless cameras available that enable you to record exciting videos while you are on the road in high definition.

Here are reviews of the top 5 Motorcycle Helmet cameras.

Helmet Crystals, Gems, and other BLING

Crystal Helmet Designs collage

Yeah, I love em too. Spikes and Crystals can be used on a variety of biker related items like chaps, boots, helmets, and gloves. The potential for spikes to be added to just about anything with a little creativity. And that is something that most all bikers have: a creative side.

Motorcycle Helmet Locks

Helmetlok HelmetLok II Lock Black RubberizedIf you’ve ever wondered where your helmet goes whenever you return to your bike, this is going to be news for you. A helmet lock  protects your expensive helmet from thieves looking to make a quick buck off you.

Helmet loks are a carabiner style lock with a combination locking mechanism and rubberized coating on the loop.

You can lock that precious helmet up to any part of your bike, or your bike and helmet to anything that you can park close enough to.

A quick note…

Batman Lightmode HelmetPrepare for the Crash, Dress for the Ride

If you don’t have the stomach to face the car dealers just yet, getting a motorcycle will be the next best thing for you, I suppose. There’s no denying that hitting the road on a motorcycle can be dangerous, which is why safety is one of the things that is always on the motorcyclist’s mind. When hitting the open road on your motorcycle, the helmet, which is considered as its saddle, can make the long trip enjoyable or turn it into a nightmare.

So, if you’re looking to have fun on your road trip, might as well find yourself a comfortable helmet along with the best accessories for your head that will make your long rides more enjoyable and comfortable.

Although, it is without a doubt that finding a motorcycle helmet can be a daunting task for some, finding the right accessories will be time consuming as well, but will pay off in the end. Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of taking a road trip that took me through Detroit, Toronto and Montreal (I know, Canada Ugh!!, Right!), what can I say, I needed the cheap meds (and maple syrup), but that’s besides the point, while I was burning the miles, what got me thinking was how flippin hard it would be if I hadn’t gotten these cool accessories for myself.

Bear in mind, that I didn’t get all of the accessories mentioned in this article here, and linked to pages on them in more detail, and because I didn’t need all of them for the trip.

Bottom Line = Your ride, your style.

So, there you have it! These are some of best motorcycle helmet accessories that will make you look pretty darn cool and should definitely be a part of your riding gear.

Motorcycle accessories are not only sleek and cool to look at, but can also be the difference between life and death if you happen to do some impromptu body surfing across the asphalt while riding down the interstate.

In the end, I would just like to say, as a friend to all those riders out there, “Prepare for the crash, dress for the ride.”  Wearing the proper riding gear does not have to mean suiting up in full body armor, but it does mean you should wear heavy clothes, like jeans and a jacket, and I would also recommend a good helmet and some of these accessories mentioned above, but then again, you already knew that.

Ride Safe, and may your next ride be Badass!
