UPDATE: Willie G. & Springer Named Grand Marshals of the 2007 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days
The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) has announced that Willie G. Davidson and Jay Springsteen will be honored as the "Grand Marshals" of AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days 2007, to be held July 27-29 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

Known to millions worldwide simply as "Willie G.," Davidson is celebrated for shaking up the design department at Harley-Davidson Motor Company with new and innovative ideas that helped usher in a new era for the Milwaukee-based company.  The grandson of William A. Davidson, one of the company's original founders, Willie G. was part of the group of employees that bought the company back from AMF and helped guide it to prosperity during the 1980s.  He was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999.

Springsteen is considered one of the best AMA Grand National flat-track racers of all time, and over the years the Harley-Davidson rider became the series' most beloved competitor.  Bursting onto the scene in 1975 as AMA Rookie of the Year, "Springer" went on to win three consecutive AMA Grand National Championships starting in 1976.  In 1982 he became the first to reach 30 AMA Grand National wins, ultimately earning 43 wins over the longest racing career in series history.  He was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2003.

The Harley-Davidson Sportster will be the "Featured Marque" at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days 2007 (see below).  Introduced as the XL in 1957, the Sportster celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. This landmark line of motorcycles, like Willie G. and Springer, has become an indisputable icon in American motorcycling and has had a significant impact on American culture.

In addition to the XL, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days 2007 will honor the Sportster's earlier siblings, including the K, KK, KH, KHK, KR and XR models.  Owners of these motorcycles are invited to bring their machines to AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days 2007 for display in the Sportster Corral.
A select group of early and significant examples will be chosen for a special Marque of the Year display.  For more information, contact Will Stoner at wstoner@ama-cycle.org or 614-856-1900 ext. 1227.
