Triumph Motorcycles (America) Ltd., has announced a new partnership with the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA).  Kicking off the 2005 season with an inaugural race at Carolina Motorsports Park, Kershaw, SC, on March 3, 2005, the Thruxton Challenge will be a regular feature at all AHRMA Historic Cup Roadrace Series events, including March 7-8 at Daytona International Speedway.

The Triumph Thruxton 900 is a modern interpretation of the classic café racers of the past.  Drawing on Triumph’s steep racing heritage, the motorcycle and its classic silhouette reach back to the evolution of purpose-built sport bikes and the era of the café racer.  With its clip-on handlebars and rear-set foot pegs, the Thruxton 900 is perfectly suited to spec class road racing.

The Thruxton features an 865cc air-cooled twin-cylinder power plant.  Peak power output of 69hp is delivered at 7,250rpm and peak torque of 53 ft. lbs. arrives at 5,750rpm.  The precisely crafted chassis inspires confidence with preload-adjustable 41mm telescopic forks, sharp steering geometry, and a fully floating 320mm front disc with twin-piston brake caliper in a tubular steel twin-cradle frame.

The Thruxton Challenge is sure to inspire competitors and spectators alike.  Triumph Motorcycles will be offering a special rebate program for series competitors.  AHRMA license holders purchasing a new Thruxton 900 for this race series will receive an $800 rebate directly from Triumph.

Get ready for close racing action and a truly unique sound as the Thruxton Series gets underway!  For more information on this series, contact Triumph Motorcycles (America), Ltd. at marketing@triumphmotorcycles.com or visit the AHRMA’s website.

UPDATE:  Thruxton Cup Challenge Points Fund

Now there’s even more of an incentive to get involved in the Triumph Thruxton Cup Challenge — a $4,500 points fund posted by Triumph Motorcycles (America) Ltd. and the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association.

The Thruxton Cup Challenge is a spec class featuring the new Triumph Thruxton 900 and running at all AHRMA Progressive Suspension Historic Cup Series roadraces during 2005, beginning with the Bike Week warmup race on March 3 at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina, followed by the March 7-8 AHRMA Classics Days at Daytona International Speedway.

The series points fund comes in addition to an $800 rebate paid directly by Triumph to AHRMA-licensed racers who purchase a Thruxton for use in the 19-round national series.

AHRMA also has released the technical requirements for machines participating in the Thruxton Cup Challenge. To keep the series competitive and affordable, as well as to preserve the unique cafe-racer look of the Thruxton 900, few modifications will be allowed. Fenders, bodywork and wheels must remain standard, and treaded tires are required. The only modification allowed to the engine is multi-angle or radius valve jobs, but the exhaust system and jetting may be changed.

A complete list of technical requirements and other details about the series can be found on the AHRMA website.

AHRMA reports quite a bit of interest in the new series, with inquiries fielded from a number of individuals, race teams and motorcycle shops preparing entries. Included in that is an effort by Triumph that will see celebrity riders and journalists competing on a pair of “factory” machines.
