Rev'it GTX
Base Layers
Rev'it also developed an entire line of
windproof and insulating base layers to compliment the
new GTX clothing lineup for Fall/Winter 2010.The
Karma WSP (Windstopper) is a neck warmer that covers the
front of the chest and upper back at the bottom and is
designed to easily fit over the rider's nose and mouth
to block cold air. The Windstopper fabric blocks
the air, while the rip-stop stretch textile and very
soft micro-fleece lining provides comfort.
The panels are laser cut and overlocked seams are
used and the stitching is very flat so that it doesn't
cause discomfort. The Karma is rated water
resistant and windproof.
The Velox WSP Windcollar is also windproof and water
resistant. It's a shorter version that covers the
rider's nose and mouth and back of the neck and fits
under the jacket collar but doesn't cover the chest and
upper back.
The Amazon GTX Balaclava is designed for the worst
weather conditions. It is a very thin balaclava
attached to a neck and face warmer. It is made
from Gore-Tex Taslan two-layer stretch material that
stretches four ways. It also has the super-soft
micro-fleece lining and the Gore-Tex membrane allows the
Amazon GTX to be rated as waterproof and windproof.
It uses a new "baseball glove" style stitching across
the top (photo below) to provide comfort over the
rider's head for riders with or without hair!
Underwear Base Layers
Rev'it said that the maximum benefits of the Gore-Tex
breathable membranes will occur when a moisture-wicking
base layer is worn underneath. The idea is that
the base layer transports moisture from the rider's body
to the Gore-Tex membrane inside the jacket shell, which
then takes over and transports the moisture to the
outside.
New base layers for the GTX clothing lineup include
the Polaris shirt and Frost trousers. These are
basic breathable insulating layers with Polartec
"Classic 100" material for warmth. They are not
rated as windproof or waterproof but compliment the
Gore-Tex liners in the GTX clothing lineup.
The Aztec WSP shirt and Inca WSP trousers. As
noted by the WSP label, these use the Windstopper
three-layer, four-way stretch fabric that also
incorporates Coolmax technology. The windproof and
water-resistant material is used in the chest and front
of the arms.
The Aztec WSP shirt has a turtleneck and offset
zipper to prevent bulk at the front. It also has
elastic in the neck, cuffs and waist. All of the
seams in the base layers are stitched with the overlock
method for strength and security.
The Ranger WSP jacket also uses the Windstopper
three-layer soft shell. It is windproof and
water-resistant and breathable. It has a vertical
zipper on a chest pocket.
The top-of-the-line base layer is the Samurai WSP.
Rev'it isn't sure at this point whether the Samurai will
make it into production, but I hope it does -- it's a
beautifully made jacket that can also be worn on the
street. It uses the Windstopper three-layer soft
shell with Coolmax, making it water-repellent and
windproof.
The Samurai WSP also uses a new type of "hook" in the
Velcro hook-and-loop system. The hooks are molded
and are designed so they won't catch on anything but the
"loop" section of the Velcro! See the photo below.
