Continuing with the new Rev'it Mediterranean mythology naming conventions, the Neptune GTX is another all-new jacket for 2014.
The Neptune GTX replaces the Rev'it Legacy GTX but once again, it gets kicked by a notch or two to make it even better.
The Legacy GTX was a favorite do-it-all four-season jacket that was practical and to the point, with everything you need and nothing you didn't.
The Neptune follows that tradition but hey -- who doesn't like a bit of sugar with their porridge?
The molasses comes in the form of a removable Gore-Tex waterproof/breathable "PacLite" liner; the Legacy had the non-removable Gore-Tex Z-Liner.
Rev'it said that customers want as much weather versatility as they can get in their jackets, so the removable water- and wind-proof liner with a separate removable insulating liner is the way to go.
This system does provide a wide range of "modular" adjustments: shell only, shell with waterproof liner or shell with insulating liner. Mix and match to suit (pun) the ever-changing conditions.
The Neptune GTX has ProLife protectors in the shoulders and elbows and this jacket is also ready for the optional Rev'it Seesoft Level 2 back protector.
Rev'it said most or all of their jackets now have a standardized back protector pocket to fit standard Seesoft protector sizes.
The Seesoft back protectors are also available to fit pockets sized for SAS-Tec and Knox protectors. Besides the back protector standardization, several jackets are prepped for the Rev'it Challenger cooling vest insert.
The Neptune GTX is ready for the Rev'it Connector HV vest (review), which meets the Euro standards for reflectivity and high-visibility.
But there's also a High-Visibility version of the Neptune: the Neptune GTX HV.
It has large high-visibility EN471 certified panels in front, on the back and along the arms.
The Neptune gets its own matching pants, the Neptune GTX trousers. They also have the removable Gore-Tex Paclite membrane and removable insulating layer, along with ProLife protectors.
Lots of details and a fabric sewing pattern gives the Rev'it Neptune GTX jacket and pants a style that is a cross between touring and adventure-touring and should look good on either.
The Rev'it Neptune GTX jacket and pants will be available in black, anthracite (a new color for Rev'it and it looks very nice) and "silver" (actually a light gray or stone color).
The Neptune GTX HV high-visibility color is also available; it has a base shell color of black. The Neptune will be available starting in October 2013. The matching pants will be available in black or silver.
The jacket will have a list price of $599.99 and the HV version is $629.99.
The MSRP of the matching Neptune GTX trousers is $449.99. The optional Seesoft Level 2 back protector has an MSRP of $49.99.
The Rev'it Neptune GTX jacket and pants is the "workhorse" mid/high range Rev'it outfit for 2014 that is designed for all-around four-season riding weather.
The removable Gore-Tex waterproof and breathable liner, along with the removable insulating liner should make the Neptune highly versatile. We'll have all the details in the full webBikeWorld review.

From "H.S." (December 2015): "My experience with jacket: Gear looks nice, does keep you dry, warm and venting allows for warm weather riding. Make sure you replace armor with great quality.
Experienced a low side with jacket and pants combo. Gear does not hold up well at seams. Seams ripped for me on low side, and only protection was armor.
For outdoor jacket it works well, but for motorcycle protection functionality, it was not abrasion resistant or at least wear abrasion.
My pair unraveled at seams at shoulder. It could be a one-time lemon jacket. Rev'it support did not indicate comments with stitch failure at seams, but simply indicated they do not cover broken gear by accident.
They missed my point that the seams do not hold together in a accident."
