We're all about bringing you information on
unique and interesting products that are useful for motorcycling, and this
is a good example.
A German company, Einszett may not be a familiar
name in North America, but they have been making an assortment of car care
products, polishes and waxes since 1936 and they do have a U.S. presence
with their American
website.
Einszett products are available at many online
and local detail shops, and they also offer direct online sales.
We found Gummi Pflege Stift, or "Rubber Care
Stick", at a local detailing shop and figured we had to try it.
It is a new product for 2008 in the North American market.
Gummi Pflege Stift is a liquid and the bottle has a foam
applicator on top. It smells rather like a bug repellant, but only if
you put your nose right near the product.
Burn uses it on a regular basis to treat the
gaskets on the BMW side cases and top box. It does seem to do a good
job at cleaning the seals and keeping them fresh.
We think it works better than silicone-based
products, which can leave a film on the seals that attract dust and dirt.
But here's a secret: It also works well on
motorcycle helmet visor seals, although honestly we've never had a problem
with a helmet visor seal wearing or drying out. But it does seem to
keep them looking fresh.
Touring bike owners may find this product comes
in handy for keeping their luggage seals fresh and pliable, but otherwise,
it's rather a curiosity for motorcycle use.
Conclusion: Interesting focused
product for keeping rubber seals clean and protected, but otherwise has
limited motorcycle use
