WDW 2007: Ducati Red Planet
UPDATE: Patti
Smith to perform at WDW!
See below...
Excitement is growing for the creation of the
Ducati "Red Planet" as the world championship
circuit of Misano in Italy prepares for World Ducati
Week 2007.
Ducati factory MotoGP and Superbike riders are
scheduled to make appearances throughout the event
and the packed program also includes the fourth
round of Ducati’s one-make race series, the Ducati
Desmo Challenge.
The Borgo Panigale factory is gearing up for the
fifth edition of WDW, the Italian motorcycle
manufacturer’s international festival, which will be
held from June 28th to July 1st at the world
championship circuit of Misano.
Despite enrolment not yet being opened, the
factory has already received thousands of requests
for details on the latest edition of the now famous
Ducati event.
The 2004 WDW attracted more than 45,000 people
and this year’s event is expected to grow even
bigger as thousands of motorcyclists from all over
the world prepare to travel to Misano for the ‘Red
Planet’ edition.
Ducati enthusiasts will also have the fantastic
opportunity of experiencing the WDW alongside the
official Ducati Corse riders. Ducati Xerox Team
Superbike riders, Troy Bayliss and Lorenzo Lanzi,
will be at the circuit from Friday onwards while the
Ducati MotoGP Team of Loris Capirossi and Casey
Stoner will fly into Misano immediately after
Saturday’s Dutch GP race in order to spend Sunday
with their fans at WDW (see below).
Helping the Misano circuit to pulsate with
Ducati’s unmistakable twin-cylinder sound, this
year’s event will also host the fourth round of the
Ducati Desmo Challenge. The one-make race
series will run from Thursday through Saturday.
Many on and off-track activities are organized to
run throughout the weekend, including track
sessions, riding courses with professional
instructors, the opportunity to test ride new
Ducatis and Ducati University seminars held by
Ducati top managers and engineers.
Additionally, a series of shows and exhibitions
including stuntmen, mini-motard bikes, the "Best
Custom Ducati" award ceremony, fashion shows and
many other surprises and innovative events will make
WDW 2007 three days full of two-wheeled passion and
enjoyment!
WDW is not only for Ducati owners. Everyone is
invited to join the thousands of fans from all over
the world in this unique three-day motorcycle
celebration.
Further information regarding the event and
program is available on the dedicated WDW area of
the
Ducati website.

Ducati has announced that Loris Capirossi and
Casey Stoner will attend the 2007 World Ducati Week
celebrations.
The IRTA tests at Jerez de la Frontera provided the
occasion for the official exposure of the WDW 2007
emblem on the Desmosedici GP7 of the Ducati MotoGP
team.
It is a significant logo on a significant
space of a very special Grand Prix motorcycle.
World Ducati Week 2007, the gathering that every two
years attracts tens of thousands of Ducatisti from
across the world, takes place from June 28 to July 1
at the Misano World Circuit at Misan Adriatico
(Rimini).
As tradition demands, the entire Ducati
universe will converge on this momentous event,
which will, of course, feature Ducati Corse and its
riders in a starring role.
"The date chosen for the WDW 2007 unfortunately
coincides with the GP at Assen," said Capirossi, who
was busy during the MotoGP test at Jerez de la
Frontera.
"But, as a Ducatista, for no reason would
I want to miss this exceptional event. The team has
already organized a special flight for me and Casey
and, given that the GP in Holland runs on Saturday,
we will leave as soon as the race is over and be on
the track at Misano by Saturday evening to celebrate
the WDW 2007. To reveal this emblem on our bikes
means expressing the pride of belonging to a
community made of real enthusiasts who make up the
great Ducatista family.
PATTI SMITH AT WORLD
DUCATI WEEK
May 25, 2007 - The legendary rock star will have a
show on June 30th for the world gathering of
Ducatisti, while the Province of Rimini offers free
entrance to all women!
Patti Smith, possibly the most influential woman in
the history of rock, will give a concert on
Saturday, June 30th at 10:30 p.m. on the stage at
the Misano World Circuit. This concert will be
part of the “Saturday Night Party”, the most
exciting evening during the World Ducati Week, the
fifth world gathering of Ducatisti.

Everyone, not only WDW 2007 participants, will be
able to attend Patti Smith’s concert. WDW
entry with a “ 4 Day Pass” or a “1 Day Pass” for
Saturday guarantees free access to the concert, but
all rock fans are encouraged to come. Men can
enter the WDW for the concert with a special ticket
which costs 20 Euro, while entrance to the concert
is free for women.
Since the concert will also be part of the “Notte
Rosa”, the summer festival on the Romagnola seaside,
the Province of Rimini is offering all women free
entrance. They will only have to go to a WDW
ticket counter to receive their free entry. Men can
go to the same ticket counter to buy reduced price
tickets only for the concert.
Patti Smith was named by Rolling Stone as one of the
fifty most important artists in the history of
modern music. A few months ago she was
inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the
famous music museum in Cleveland dedicated to the
most important musical figures of the world that
have had a musical career of at least twenty five
years. Smith rose to fame with her album
Horses in 1975 which quickly earned her the title of
“punk rock’s poet laureate”, partially due to the
acknowledged influence of French poet Arthur Rimbaud
in her lyrics.
Only three years later, her famous single Because
the Night, written with Bruce Springsteen, reached
record sales around the world, solidifying Patti
Smith’s fame.
She recently published her twelfth album, Twelve,
which includes various famous guests including Flea
from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and covers of songs
by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Dylan, Hendrix,
Stevie Wonder and other famous rock and pop stars
which Smith interpreted in her own personal and
unique style.
Patti Smith, a true musical legend that has helped
to define rock and roll since the 1970s, playing at
the World Ducati Week is an amazing experience that
should not be missed.
