May 8, 2008 - Ducati Sweeps
Motociclismo Magazine 2008 Bike of the Year Awards
More than 35,000 readers of the major Italian bike magazine
Motociclismo voted for their “Moto dell’anno 2008” (Bike of
the Year 2008) and scored Ducati a best ever result in Sport
Bike, best in Supermotard and a major result in the Naked
Bike categories.
Choosing from 280 models split into 12 categories, including
125cc, Cruiser, Naked, Dual, Enduro, Supermotard, Touring,
Sport Bike, Sport Touring, and three scooter categories, the
public’s favorite and most eagerly awaited award was for
best Sport Bike. For the first time ever in the
history of such awards presented by motorcycle magazines, a
single manufacturer – Ducati – had recorded an unprecedented
clean sweep of votes and claimed the first three places.
The Ducati 1098 took the coveted first place with the
Desmosedici RR in second and the stunning new 848 filled the
‘podium’ with third place to achieve the previously
unmatched haul of trophies. Ducati’s domination of the
Sport Bike category is a clear indication of the credibility
and respect that the Italian manufacturer enjoys in this
specific sector, traditionally a bench-mark and inspiration
in the motorcycling world.
Ducati’s success that evening, however, did not end there.
Once more, the highly original Hypermotard took first place
honors in the Supermotard category and the beautiful new
Monster 696, despite being launched just a few weeks ago,
took an incredible second place in the Naked Bike category.
To complete the impressive haul of awards, the Multistrada
scooped third place overall in the Dual category.
The award ceremony, which took place during the evening of
May 8, 2008, was held in the breathtaking surroundings of
the Sforzesco Castle in Milan. In attendance were the
Edisport (the Motociclismo publisher) management,
Guidalberto Guidi (president of ANCMA Confindustria, the
Italian industrialists’ association), the participating
manufacturers in the competition and host for the evening,
Maddalena Corvaglia, the famous Italian showgirl who rides a
Ducati Monster.
March 17, 2008 - The readers of eleven European
magazines voted a Ducati as the “2008 Bike of the Year” in
both the “Sports Bike” category and the “Trial/Supermoto”
category.
Over 95,000 readers of eleven
European magazines, including Motorrad, In Moto,
Motociclismo, Toff, Moto Journal and others, expressed their
personal preference by voting the most stylish and desired
motorcycle of 2008.
Once again, Ducati dominated the
scene, picking up prizes and awards that confirm the
world-wide success of the new ‘made in Borgo Panigale’
models.
Ducati were victorious in two of
the most prestigious and important trade categories.
Within the "Trial - Supermoto" category, the
Hypermotard
confirmed the sensational result achieved last year, beating
prestigious models such as the BMW R 1200 GS, KTM 950
Supermoto, Triumph Tiger and Honda Varadero.
The Ducati vote was overwhelming
with the Hypermotard taking first place in six out of eleven
countries (Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Hungary and
Italy), second place in Poland and Holland, and third place
in Switzerland.
Success in the Sportbike
category was equally as impressive, and with a repeat of
last year’s performance, Ducati devoured the opposition.
The Ducati 1098 was first in Germany, Switzerland and Italy, second
in France, Spain, Portugal and Croatia, and third in
Holland.
Ducati’s leadership in this
segment was further confirmed by the performance of the
stunning and exclusive
Desmosedici RR, the most voted by
readers in five out of eleven countries (France, Spain,
Portugal, Hungary and Rumania) and the second most voted
Superbike in Germany, Poland and Italy.
In five out of eleven countries,
two Ducati models were first and second in a category
red-hot with competition such as the Suzuki GSX-R 1000, MV
Agusta, Honda CB 1000 R, Yamaha R1 and other prestigious
models.
Readers rewarded other important
brand-related aspects of the Borgo Panigale machines,
further contributing towards Ducati’s incredible success.
They included best sporting brand, best designs, passion for
the brand and above all, racing performance.
